Temu's prices are real, but so are the inconsistencies. Here's how to shop it without getting burned.

Low prices on unfamiliar marketplaces raise a fair question: what’s the catch? For Temu, the honest answer is inconsistency more than outright risk — but a few habits make the experience noticeably more reliable.
Stick to categories with low failure cost
Save Temu for items where a disappointing result is a minor annoyance, not a real problem: small home goods, accessories, novelty items. Avoid it for anything where consistent quality matters, like items you’re buying as gifts on a deadline.
Read the most recent reviews, not the top ones
Listings can stay live across multiple supplier batches, so a product’s overall rating can lag behind its current quality. Sort reviews by most recent and weight those over the aggregate score.
Screenshot the listing before you order
Because listings occasionally change after purchase, keep a screenshot of the product photos and description at the time you order. This makes any “not as described” return claim faster to process.
Turn off push notifications immediately
Temu’s marketing notifications are frequent and use urgency-driven language. Disabling them in your phone’s settings (rather than the app’s own settings, which are easy to miss) removes most of the pressure tactics without affecting your ability to shop.
Use the return window deliberately
Temu’s return window is longer than many competitors’. Don’t let that create a false sense of security — inspect items as soon as they arrive rather than assuming you’ll get to it later.
