What we tested
We placed twelve orders across categories — homeware, apparel, electronics accessories — over ten weeks, tracking delivery time, product-as-described accuracy, and the return process for two intentionally flagged items.
The pitch
Temu’s prices are its entire proposition, and on that front it delivers: items were consistently 30–60% cheaper than equivalent listings on other marketplaces. The order tracking interface is more detailed than most competitors, showing each customs and carrier handoff.
The trade-offs
Two things pulled the score down. First, the app leans heavily on gamified discounts — spinning wheels, countdown timers, “only 2 left” banners — that use pressure tactics more aggressive than most shopping apps. Second, product quality varied noticeably between orders of what appeared to be the same listing, suggesting inconsistent supplier fulfillment behind a single product page. Four of twelve orders arrived past the estimated delivery window shown at checkout.
Verdict
Reasonable for low-stakes, inexpensive purchases where inconsistent quality is an acceptable risk. We’d avoid it for anything where reliability matters more than price.
